Ani's werkbook

Season 1 Episode 5

This is no origin story, no neat arc—just a life cracking open.

Ani grows up in the quiet violence of not having the words, where silence does the shaping and shame fills in the gaps. Religion, rules, masculinity—tight scripts, no room to breathe. So she leaves. Or maybe she breaks out. São Paulo isn’t a solution, but it’s air—loud, messy, alive enough to start fresh.

This episode moves like that: rupture, language, reassembly. Words once thrown as weapons get picked up, turned, sharpened, and then owned. Pop culture flickers in—mirrors where there were none. Classrooms become lifelines. Real allies survive and and appear. And somewhere in the middle of all that noise, something steadier starts to form.

Hers is not a clean ‘becoming.’ More like insisting. Again and again. Until love shows up. Until a future that she didn’t imagine when younger starts taking shape anyway.

Welcome to #werkbookpodcast, Episode 5. I hope you enjoy it even to a small degree that I did producing it. Materials will follow for episodes 1-6 in the coming months.
